Mitchell & Urwin apprentice wins award

A huge congratulations to Harris Fox, one of the Mitchell & Urwin apprentices, who has won a Most Outstanding Apprentice special award. Harris received the award for work done on a Brickwork Course Level 2 at Hull School of Construction and Green Energy Skills, on 11 June 2018.

At Mitchell & Urwin, we invest a huge amount into our apprentices as we want to lead the way in creating the next generation of bricklayers.  Every apprentice is paired with a mentor to ensure they learn hands-on skills from an experienced bricklayer. They attend their training courses at college as well as supplemental courses we provide on topics like Health & Safety. Every apprentice is also equipped with workwear and tools of the trade.

“Our apprentices are a massive part of the Mitchell & Urwin family. In fact 25% of our bricklaying team is made up of apprentices,” explains Matt Smith, head of the Mitchell & Urwin Apprentice Academy. “Since setting up the Academy in 2015, we have recruited 49 apprentices and won the 2017 CITB Apprentice SME Employer Award for the whole of the UK, proving that our programme is leading the way for the building industry. We are determined to produce bricklayers of the highest calibre so it is hugely rewarding when one of our apprentices wins awards for the work they are producing. Well done Harris. We’re all proud of your commitment.”
