DIY SOS Star Comes to Our Apprentice’s Rescue

When our apprentice Beth Skinner had her precious bricklaying tools stolen from her car, she was heartbroken. Thieves took her toolkit – which included a £54 trowel gifted to Beth by her mentor Gary Puplett – from the boot of her car outside her home on the evening of 26th November. The budding bricklayer had feared she’d never be able to continue learning the trade she loves so much, until The DIY SOS team and Ox Tools presented her with a replacement.

Beth was attending the official opening ceremony of the University of Hull’s brand new Construction Centre when she was taken by surprise by a special announcement. Mark Miller of the BBC’s DIY SOS took a short break from the ceremonial opening to present Beth with a brand new toolkit, kindly donated by Ox Tools.

The apprentice burst into tears when Mark and Ox Tools representative Donny Patmore presented her with the kit, which represents a real life line for her. Beth, who is part of Mitchell and Urwin’s apprentice programme, has been learning her skills under Gary’s mentorship at the Keepmoat – Wawne Road development. She writes a blog documenting her experiences and what she’s learnt so far, which you can read here
